The Suryan Collective at UK Black Pride 2024: A Day of Joy, Connection, and Collective Vision
We did it—The Suryan Collective made its debut at UK Black Pride in our new formation as a CIC, and what a day it was! With suitcases full of decorations, art materials, and a whole lot of love, we set up a stall that invited creativity, conversation, and community.
From the moment the gates opened, we were buzzing. So many folks stopped by—some new faces, many familiar ones—and it was deeply affirming to reconnect and share space together. We asked visitors to help shape our future: What would you like to see from TSC? What kinds of events speak to you? How might you want to contribute? The responses were thoughtful, bold, and full of possibility.
Throughout the day, we offered hourly mindful breathing and movement sessions led by the brilliant Kiki, creating moments of calm and grounding amidst the celebration. Over at the multi-faith tent, Manju facilitated a powerful Queer Community Circle alongside our friends from Imaan and Sarbat—holding space for solidarity across faith and belief, especially in a summer marked by disturbing racist riots and rhetoric.
Yes, it was hot. But the energy was electric—unapologetic joy, pride, and presence in every corner. This is what we love at TSC: spaces that honour our complexity, celebrate our creativity, and build toward collective liberation.
We’re so grateful to everyone who showed up, shared, and dreamed with us. This is just the beginning.
